Services for Velmer Jean Jackson, 90, of Lufkin will be at 11 a.m., held on Saturday, December 18, 2021, in the New Life Church of Lufkin, 4707 FM 843, Lufkin, TX. Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Velmer Jean Watts-Jackson was born in Chirino, Texas to the late Elder Willie Watts and Bishop Becky B. Anders-Watts on May 7, 1931. From this union, she was the oldest of eleven children.
Velmer completed her education at the Chirino Public School. She accepted Christ at an early age. The family relocated to Lufkin, Texas in 1946. In 1950, she married Otis G. Jackson and to this union, six children were born. Even though she gave birth to only six children, she opened her heart and became the mother too much older and younger. She was known as Muh, Madea, and Mother to some. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was called Muh Mua. In her lifetime she was employed by the Lufkin Independent School District, Angelina College, and as a Caregiver. She always showed her heart as one ready to lend a helping hand and to give a brief sermon about the goodness of the Lord.
Mother lived by putting God first in all that she did beginning with working in her Mother's Church: True Light Holiness Church, Warren Temple, Holy Sanctified Church, Church of the Living God PGT, and CWFF, as well as her present Church, The New Life Church of Lufkin. Wherever she was needed, her help and financial support were there. Her heart and devotion were to Sunday School, where she served as Superintendent for 20 plus years with emeritus status. Her desire was always to do her best and hide the word of God in her heart. Her wish was to instill the word and the love of God to everyone that attended Sunday School. This was her passion until she went home to be with the Lord on December 9, 2021.
