William Adams' Obituary
Service for William Adams, 98, of Huntington is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the James Chapel True Light Church, located at 1803 FM 844, Huntington, TX 75949. Visitation will be Friday, October 7, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., in the Colonial Mortuary Chapel, Burial will follow in the Huntington Cemetery. Mr. Adams was born on May 16, 1924, in Colombia Tx, and died on Monday, October 3, 2022, in Lufkin.
Mr. William Banks Adams, affectionately called "Paw Paw," was born in Columbus Mississippi to Lillian (William) and Frank Adams on May 16, 1924.
William grew up in Bousfield and Prentiss Mississippi. In His younger days, he played baseball with the Negro League as a pitcher. It was there that he had the pleasure of playing with Jackie Robinson. He was a Mason and had been employed with Southern Pacific Railroad for a short period of time, but was a Logger by trade. He moved to Texas and it was there that he met and married Bertha Lee Holmes on August 6, 1949. To this union, eleven daughters and two sons were born. He also was the father of one son and one daughter from a previous marriage. He joined James Chapel Church late in life and also attended the Huntington Church of the Living God, in which he was an active member until his health failed him. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and would often be found playing cards with his family and friends. He also loved playing and telling jokes.
On October 3, 2022, Mr. William Banks Adams departed this life in Lufkin, Texas. He is preceded in death by His wife of 65 years, Bertha Adams; Parents, Frank and Lillian (Adams) McCloud; Stepfather, Lonnie McCloud, Sr.; Sister, Annie Ruth Thompson; Brothers, Johnny B., Danny, R.H. and Bonnie Adams; Sons, Sam and Johnny Adams; Daughters, Mary and Shirley Ann Adams and Bernice Applewhite; A Grandson and great-grandson.
