The funeral service for Zenoba Beck-Moreland,83, of Lufkin will be held at 11:00 A.M., Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Woods Memorial Temple Church, 230 Leach St, Lufkin, TX 75904. The burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Garden
.Zenoba Beck-Moreland, 83, passed away in Lufkin, Texas at Chi St. Luke Hospital in the Hospice IP on April 28, 2025. Zenoba was born in Denison, Texas, in 1942 to the parentage of the late Armon and Thelma Matts.
The family moved to Lufkin, Texas in 1953. She attended and graduated from Dunbar High School where she was a cheerleader. After graduation she began working at Memorial Hospital as a Central Supply Aid. She met the love of her life, Gene Beck after he returned from the military at the young age of 19. They were blessed with a beautiful large family, Eddie, Elsie (deceased), Mary (Christopher), Wonder (Brian) Byron (deceased) Gene (Valencia), Diana, Larry (Angela) and Zenobra. In August 2002, Zenobra married her second husband, Little John Moreland . Surrounded by friends and family they celebrated a joyful union, filled with love and support. These times were cherished in Zenoba's life.
She loved serving the Lord and singing. Her favorite role was that of a grandmother. She cherished her time with he grandchildren, taking neighborhood walks, shopping at the Salvation Army and simply enjoying their presence. She had 24 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren all bringing her tremendous joy. Among her dearest friends, was Lucielle Mack whom she shared unforgettable memories. Especially the Church Convention trip they shared to Memphis which they both cherished.
She was part of a large loving sibling group: Ruby (deceased), Armon Jean (deceased), Claudlene (deceased), Juanita (deceased), Arthur (deceased), Charles (deceased), Bobby (deceased). Charles (deceased), Mary and Oscar "OD" (deceased). Zenoba was a faithful member of Eastside Church and formerly Zion Temple (Woods Memorial). She gave freely of her time and energy, serving in many roles within the church and leading by example.
Her passions were many: crafting, singing, leading church programs, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren. To her community, she was known as the "Neighborhood mother." Always generous and loving. We will remember her giving spirit, warm guidance, and her favorite saying:
Don't say it if you can't spell it."
Zenoba was preceded in death by: Her husband, Gene Beck and children, Byron and Elsie.
She is survived by her husband, Little John Moreland; Sister, Mary Reed; Children, Eddie, Mary, Wonder, Gene, Rowina, Larry, Zenobra and her many grandchildren.
