Dr. Dallas Pierre's Obituary
Memorial services for Dr. Dallas Pierre will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Mortuary.
Dr. Dallas Pierre, 90, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, community leader, and dentist, passed away on November 6, 2023 in Lufkin, Texas. Dr. Pierre was born in Charenton, Louisiana, on June 9, 1933, to Russell Pierre, Sr. and Eva Larry Pierre.
After graduating from Lincoln High School in Port Arthur, Texas, Dallas obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Prairie View
A&M University, Master of Science Degree from Texas Southern University, and Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston, Texas.
He met his beautiful wife, Carol, while serving as a member of the United States Air Force and the couple wed in August of 1960.
Upon graduating from dental school, Dallas relocated to Lufkin,
where he became the community's only black dentist. For 40 years, he was in private practice caring for patients across the region. He was a Life Member of both the American an Texas Dental Associations, The East Texas Dental Society, where he became the organization's first minority member, and served as past president of the Gulf State Dental Association. Additionally, he was a past member of the Lufkin ISD School Board, a Golden Heritage Member of the NAACP, a member of Sigma Phi Fraternity (Delta Gamma Boulé), and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated. Dallas also frequently contributed to the Opinion Page of the Lufkin Daily News. For his civic service, the Angelina County Citizens Chamber of Commerce awarded Dallas it' s highest honor, The Eagle Award, for his lifetime contributions to the community. Dr. Dallas Pierre left and indelible mark and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, Dr. James Darian Pierre; Daughter-in love, Dr. Mariette Turner; Grandson, Wesley Jameson Pierre; Sister, Loretta Wyndon; Brother, Russell Pierre, Jr; Numerous relatives and close friends.
Dallas was preceded I death by: His parents, Russell and Eva; Devoted wife of 60 years, Carol Ann Pierre (Née Yates) whom he lovingly called "Candy," and a brother, All .
