Services for LaVerne Grimes, 81, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Colonial Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Garden. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. Monday at Colonial Mortuary. Mrs. Grimes was born August 5, 1937 in Groveton, TX. and died July 30, 2019 in Lufkin.Laverne Grimes, was born on August 5, 1937, to the parentage of Beatrice and Yancy Clay in Groveton, Texas.
Laverne was reared in Groveton, Texas. She was affectionately called "Toot Nanny" by those who knew her back home. She attended the Groveton Public Schools. After her marriage to Joe Grimes, Sr. they moved to Lufkin, Texas. She retired from the Lufkin School District.
On July 30, 2019, Laverne departed this life in Lufkin, Texas.

Horace, Joyce Timmons and Earlene Woodson; Special family member, Bill Dickey Thompson.
She is preceded in death by: Parents, Beatrice and Yancy Clay; husband, Joe Grimes, Sr.; son, Rayford Punch; daughter, Alice Grimes; brother, Eddie Calvin; sister, Johnnie Mae Childress; niece, Ophia Jean Truscott and Teresa Childress.
