Melvin Ross loved the South Dallas Cultural Center and took great pride in making sure the facility was in tip top shape at all times. Not only did Melvin maintain the facility - the theater, dance studio, classrooms, photography studio and craft room,30,000 sq. ft. The Manager, Ms. Pat Johnson, counted on Melvin to help lead tours of the art exhibits and give the history of the cultural center when she and two other staffers were away from the facility.
Melvin Ross never met a stranger. He met all visitors to the facility with a smile and shared information about the art classes or performance scheduled for the public.
When Ms. Johnson took a job in New York and other staff found new jobs, Melvin held down the fort until replacement staff could be hired, sometimes as long as 6 weeks before new personnel show up. Melvin Ross was dependable and a man of his word.
I thank the Creator and his family for the home training and professionalism Mr. Ross brought to the citizens of Dallas and particularly to our South Dallas parents and children.
Melvin Ross set a high bar for all public servants to follow. We miss you already but will never forget you.
If I have one regret , it is I never recorded his personal memories of working at the South Dallas Cultural Center, as well as, to see if he had any papers/programs you might have saved.
Long lived the memory of Melvin Ross.
Thank you Mr. Melvin for being a trusted friend and caring for my lawn. I will miss our conversations about domestic and global issues. Peace and blessings. Alpha Thomas
