Funeral services for Ms. Odessa Lucas 80, will be held at 2PM on Saturday, July 5, 2025 in Peaceful Rest, 105 Fair St, Lufkin. Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Garden.
Odessa Lucas, 80 years old passed away at her residence in Lufkin, Texas, on June 29, 2025. Odessa was born in Deridder, Louisiana in 1944, to the parentage of the late Blue Williams and Mozell Williams-Howard.
She later planted roots in Lufkin, Texas, where she attended Dunbar High School. In 1964 she married Robert Lucas. Together they raised their 4 beautiful children: Luvirie Johnson (deceased)-Preston, Connie JonesWalter (deceased), Broderick Lucas-LaDonya, and Adrain Nails-Kevin
Odessa was a long term employee of Southland Nursing Home, and retired after over 20 years of employment at the same facility. She also was a long time member of the Peaceful Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where she enjoyed presiding over the kitchen for a while, and fellowshipping with the church sisters." She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, feeding her family, watching various TV shows, scrolling on Facebook, and was known for her humor, sass, and quick wit. Odessa was known by many as "BayBay," "MawMaw," "YaYa," or simply Odessa.
She was a part of a large loving sibling group: Willie Lee Bolden (deceased)-Bobby, Wonder Faye Thompson-Frank (deceased), John L Williams(deceased)-Deloris (deceased), Kenneth Williams (deceased)Beverly, Robert Williams (deceased)-Brenda and Dora Wilmore-Henry.
Odessa was also preceded in death by: both parents, her late husband, Robert Lucas, and her child, Luvirie Johnson.
Odessa is survived by: Her sisters, Wonder Faye Thompson and Dora
Wilmore; Children, Connie, Broderick, and Adrain; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; 2 special grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
